There Is Nothing So Stable As Change

Well the time has finally come. For exactly two years, I've worked at an online marketing company called ReachLocal. However, as of two weeks ago, I accepted a position at an online news source and print magazine called HousingWire. I will get to utilize my journalism degree and writing experience as I will be a reporter and will get to write everyday until I can write no more. :)

I could not be more excited about this opportunity and I so strongly believe this is the smartest career choice possible. However, it does not make leaving ReachLocal any easier. I have gained excellent work experience, made lifelong friends and, best of all, met my best friend and husband here. We get so accustomed to seeing the same people day after day that we don't realize how strange it will be to not see them everyday until the time has finally come.

Mark and I have known nothing other than working together. We met at work, started dating while we worked together and worked together the entirety of our marriage. So to say this will be a change is an understatement. No longer will we ride to work together or share coffee creamer in the mini fridge at the office. It will be strange to come home and have completely different stories about our days. I'd be lying if this didn't make me nervous (hello, insecurities). I think this will only make us closer. But I keep thinking two things: out of sight, out of mind... and absence makes the heart grow fonder. Let's hope for the second. ;)

As nervous as I am for this big change in my life, I could not be more excited to utilize the skills I have worked hard to perfect for years. I will certainly miss the familiarity of life as I've come to know it. There's something so comforting about knowing the ins and outs of your job, but there's something to be said for challenging yourself and bettering your career. I am so grateful for everything I've gotten out of the company I am leaving and there is no denying it has changed my life for the better in so many ways. Here's to new life changes and conquering the unknown. :)

Two years in a box.

  1. I know what you mean! I had a really hard time when Mitchell and I stopped working together after college last year after being at the same place and carpooling every day. It's hard at first, but just remember you made the choice for a reason that you won't regret later on!! Congrats again! :) So proud of you and excited for you!!
